Buddha shaped pears

"Hao Xianzhang, a Chinese farmer, spent six years to perfect the process by growing the pears inside moulds, local media reported. The pears cost around 50 yuan (7.32 USD) each." I don't know about you, but the little green buddhas look kindda creepy hanging from branches...

And presenting Japanese contributions to weird and wacky fruit shapes:

"These romantic cucumbers are selling at fancy supermarkets in Tokyo and as specially ordered wedding gifts at ceremonies throughout Japan. They cost 300 yen each (about US$2.50)."

Kiroichi Kimura and his wife have perfected a way of growing heart-shaped watermelons, which sell for up to US$160. It took three years to develop the process, which involves implanting a watermelon seed in a giant's heart and then slaying it and removing the melon afterward.

Christmas with his fembot

This is inventor Le Trung with his £30,000 home-made fembot. The article in UK's Daily Mail, did not say how long it took Trung to build his ideal woman, who is "'in her early 20's', is 5ft tall and has a perfect 32, 23, 33 figure". But it has been at least a few years because 2 years ago the 34 year old man suffered a heart attack from stress working on "Aiko".

Aiko speaks fluent English and Japanese, and even helped cook the turkey and hang up decorations!

Le's Christmas wish for Aiko is making her walk. Apparently, "It is the most difficult thing for any [fembot!] inventor to do." Can I just say this story made my day, it's so crazy! Thanks usernameunavailable for adding to reddit.

Inventors killed by their inventions

Irony defined. List of Inventors Killed by their own Inventions, including:

Medical
Marie Curie (1867 – 1934) invented the process to isolate radium after co-discovering the radioactive elements radium and polonium. She died of aplastic anemia as a result of prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation emanating from her research materials. Radiation's dangers were not yet well understood at the time.

Thomas Midgley, Jr. (1889 – 1944), the inventor of leaded gasoline and chlorofluorocarbons, contracted a severe case of polio, possibly in part due to an immune system weakened by his exposure to lead and other chemicals in the course of his chemistry career. This illness might well have killed him were it not for the pulley-operated system he designed to help move his debilitated body into and out of bed, which entangled him in one of its cords and strangled him to death at the age of 55.

Ministry of Interior's website hacked by Ukrainians

I was trying to find Cambodia's land traffic laws which took me to the Ministry of Interior's website.

I was on the welcome page reading the welcome address by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sak Kheng, who suggested I visit the "Q & A" page, "which is one of the active and objective pages to engage the public in a useful discussion about issues of mutual concern."

Click on Q&A and you will find this:
We are providing a Q & A page where you can post any question that other users might want to know about. Our information department will reply to questions posted here.

You agreed, through the use of Q & A page, that you will not use to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. Advertising of other commercial website(s) or chat server(s), pyramid schemes, and solicitations are strictly prohibited.
Then read the posts: CheapAirJordans, MPEG Converter, Wholesale Jewelry, Designer Handbags etc. Give it a minute and the site will be transferred to a Ukrainian website ukr.net.

It is hilarious. Obviously nobody is paying attention. The Ministry must have stuck it up because it looks good to have a Q&A section and then promptly forgot about it. They don't even know the site's been hacked (I wonder how long ago?)

Lamborghini Revention

The Lamborghini Revention.

It ranks as the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini road car to date, costing one million euros. The official press release stated that only 20 vehicles would be released to the public, with one additional car (marked as 0/20) produced for the Lamborghini Museum.

The thumbnail looks like a cartoon but the ruling Khmer elite can check out pics of the real thing here. As one poster Anna says:
Feed the poor and stop feeding your selfish ego.

I changed my mind, eat the poor and continue to feed your ego.

"Don't even reply!"

I just browsed this hysterical site don'tevenreply.com which reduced me to tears - it's so funny! The site's tagline is "emails from an asshole" which is a pretty accurate description. These are my favourites:

1. Jurassic Park truck
2. Soccer Escort
3. Expired Phish Ticket.

Cool pic - car gets stuck after bridge opens

"A motorist sits precariously on the Maple-Oregon Bridge in Sturgeon Bay [in Wisconsin] after getting stuck on the bridge as it opened Thursday. The motorist safely went on her way after the bridge was lowered. Police are hoping she’ll call to explain how she managed to get stuck in that position."

Murse

I watched this hilarious episode of a reality show over the weekend which really cracked me up. Called "True Beauty" the American series pits contestants on their inner and outer beauty in a series of challenges. The winner gets USD100,000 cash and also a chance to appear in People magazine's annual list of the 100 Most Beautiful People in the USA.

In the episode I watched, the contestants were told they could take just one item with them for their next challenge. It was funny watching one contestant debating whether to take her hair curler or hair straightener. Another couldn't decide between mascara, toothbrush and a bra. In the end deodorant won the day.

But the one that had me laughing aloud was Billy, who chose as his one item, "my murse".

A murse! I'd never even heard of a murse before!

A murse is a man-purse and Billy's murse, a small shoulder bag [I think it was LV] contained everything he could possibly need. It's pre-packed especially for emergencies like these.

I couldn't decide which was worse - owning a murse or naming your bag a murse. I mean seriously, what kind of man owns a murse? And what kind of man calls his bag a murse? The thing was, Billy was so dead serious talking about his murse. It was hysterical - I literally started tearing, I was laughing so hard.

Billy could not get passed the judge who made him choose just one item from his man purse. In the end he chose his emergency USD100 bill. But not before making another contestant Ray, give up his box of pencils (Ray can only take one pencil, you see). Ray was so pissed off, in the end he chose a hairbrush (or something like it).

The contestants are really funny and unpretentious and now I can't wait for the next episode. It's also made me think maybe Bloom should start making murses. LOL.

Logic Puzzle: Three Idols

Here is a logic puzzle for those of you who like puzzles:

The Problem:

Three gods A, B, and C are called, in some order, True, False, and Random. True always speaks truly, False always speaks falsely, but whether Random speaks truly or falsely is a completely random matter. Your task is to determine the identities of A, B, and C by asking three yes-no questions; each question must be put to exactly one god. The gods understand English, but will answer all questions in their own language, in which the words for yes and no are ‘da’ and ‘ja’, in some order. You do not know which word means which.

Answer can be found here.

World War II by Urban Dictionary

"A surprisingly accurate description of WWII (urbandictionary.com)". Brilliant. Thanks to notyavgkat for adding to reddit.com:

Germany invades Czechoslovakia.
Britain & France tell them to stop that bullshit.
Germany invades Poland.
(Russia also invades Poland from the other side: everybody forgets this.)
Britain & France declare war. This is the 'official' kick-off.
Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, & Romania all join the German side. (Everybody forgets the last three.)
Axis forces go through Europe like vindaloo through a colostomy.
Nazis exterminate Jews, gays, gypsies, & the disabled. (everybody remembers the jews but forgets the rest.)
UK holds out.
Russia & the USA don't do shit.
Entire divisions of Danish, Belgian, Dutch, Norwegian, French & Serbian volunteers join the Axis armies & SS. (everybody forgets this & to listen to them now, they were all in the fucking resistance, which must have been MASSIVE.)
Axis forces invade Russia. Suddenly the Russians don't think it's funny any more.
Japan joins the Axis & bombs Pearl Harbor.
Suddenly the US doesn't think it's funny any more.
The USA tools up the world, 'cause it's got more factories than everybody else put together, & they're out of bomber range.
Axis runs out of steam in Russia, cause Russia's enormous & bloody freezing.
Allies invade on D-Day... 5 landings: 2 British, 2 American, 1 Canadian. (everybody forgets the Canadians.)
Hitler ends up smouldering in a ditch. Russians find the body & confirm he only had one ball. Seriously.
The US decides invading stuff is a pain in the ass and invents the atom bomb instead. Drops two buckets 'o sunshine on Japan.
Russians steal half of Europe.
UK's spent almost every penny it had.
US starts telling everybody how it was all about them, & 64 years later is still doing so.
"Some of the World War II guys in 'Call of Duty' have, like, foreign accents... what's up with that?"

Electronic cigarettes

Hahahaha! Check out the electronic cigarette. It seems one Dr Murray Laugeson of Health New Zealand found the ecigarette "...very safe relative to cigarettes, and also safe in absolute terms on all measurements we have applied. Using micro-electronics it vaporizes, separately for each puff, very small quantities of nicotine dissolved in propylene glycol, two small well-known molecules with excellent safety profiles, – into a fine aerosol. Each puff contains one third to one half the nicotine in a tobacco cigarette’s puff. The cartridge liquid is tobacco-free and no combustion occurs."
Check out the cigarette pack which you can plug in to charge!
The site is convinced "electric cigarette technology is the future of smoking". It's better for you than real smoking in number of ways! It's safer because "each puff contains one third to one half the nicotine in a tobacco cigarette’s puff. The cartridge liquid is tobacco-free and no combustion occurs." Which means you won't burn your house down in case you fall asleep smoking!

Black or White

Yesterday I wrote Chhun Hy said this about Michael Jackson: "You are saying before he is black man?"

I was thinking if you just look at MJ's recent photos without knowing anything of his past you wouldn't have a clue he is black.

Well, today I just saw this: young smoke, a 20 year old white guy from the US who thinks he is black. He writes in his My Space profile under "Ethnicity", "Black/African descent". Hahaha! Thanks to Redsnow for adding to Reddit.

Was it a communist plot?

Qn: "Why was Karl Marx buried at Highgate Cemetery in London?" Answer:"Because he is dead." Hahaha! ...Or was it a Communist plot? See Original Pic here. Thanks to Fleezie for adding to reddit. This one really made me laugh.

The girl who does not age

This baby-looking girl is actually 16 years old. Brooke Greenberg has the size and mental capacity of a toddler. She is a unique medical mystery. Her body has not aged in coordination, but individual parts age out of sync with the rest. Very strange and amazing. Could she have the key to immortality? Photo and story from abcnews.

AsiaLIFE Vietnam Vs New York Magazine

Photos from wildwildeastdailies.

Ho ho ho! Who stole whose cover? According to the site linked above, it's New York magazine. But read the blog and you will find the managing editor of AsiaLIFE (Vietnam, which is separate to Cambodia's AsiaLIFE Guide) saying:

"the editorial staff actually has little to nothing to do with the design of the magazine." - "I will say that I did see the cover before we went to print, but neither Ginny nor Tom did, so again, your allegations about the New York editorial staff are patently inaccurate." - "If you’d like to call out AsiaLIFE for having inadequate checks and balances, you’d be well within your rights." - "but if you’re going to criticize a magazine for being lazy on design and creativity, I think you should hold yourself accountable for being lazy on fact-checking and in drawing conclusions."

What a weird comment. Is he saying New York magazine did *not* rip off their cover? Which means AsiaLIFE Ho Chih Minh ripped off NY mag's instead? Most confusing.

I suspect though, the original cover is New York magazine's. I am pretty sure the original heart would have been red. The green one is probably the rip off. Also, the tag line "Reasons to love" fits intuitively with the heart. Yup. I'm certain the original is the one from New York.

The man who could not sleep

Fatal familial insomnia is when you die because you just cannot sleep. Sleeping pills won't help. Italian doctors gave so many pills to one patient to try to get him to sleep, it sent him into a coma! As an occasional insomniac, I feel really really sorry for this man. His suffering must have been terrible.
